Our trusty server Marvin suffered some serious problems last night and much of today. It took awhile to track down, but it should be under-control now. During that time BeBits was acting funny, rejecting things, giving errors, or simply not responding at all. The source of our troubles? Spam. Yes, that's right, spam took us down. We've been hit by Slashdot and other big news sites but only spam has the power to bring Marvin to his knees.
We have reconfigured the spam filtering software and it seems to be doing much better now. In fact, Marvin seems right snappy compared to the way it had been feeling before this. So with luck Marvin will keep on chugging along. We were worried there for a little while because it was starting to look a lot like Marvin might be needing to be replaced as he was feeling a bit under-powered--and we don't have the funds for that. This new configuration should work very well for some time to come, though.
