1. Either edit the Muscle source file NetworkUtilityFunctions.h to say "uint32 GetPeerIPAddress(int socket, bool expandLocalhost = true)" instead of "uint32 GetPeerIPAddress(int socket, bool expandLocalhost)".
Or edit BeShare file ShareWindow.cpp to say "GetPeerIPAddress(socket, true)" instead of "GetPeerIPAddress(socket)"
I'm not sure about the true/false, but I think true does the right thing for BeShare.
2. Add MiscUtilityFunctions.o to the Makefile, inbetween ShareMIMEInfo.o and NetworkUtilityFunctions.o.

Since most people get DHCP IP from their ISP these days it is entirely possible that someone else got banned while using your IP and after you got that IP form DHCP server, you cannot get to server anymore.
As far as I know some nuisances have come back time after time, so each time it is one more IP banned (possible even IP block) which increases chance that other persons using same ISP will suffer too.

That's bullshit, I never broke the rules on the server. I'm thinking the admin is incompetent if people get banned for FOLLOWING the rules. Seems like the BeOS community is trying to destroy itself by banning those who don't break the rules.

You got banned because you can't follow simple rules. So you log in, the server finds your banned IP and kicks you off. Not a bug report, more like an idiot report. Sorry but when the MOTD displays the rules when you log in and you log in 4 times and do exactly what the rules tell you not to do I have no sympathy for you at all.

That's where its acting very strangely. BeShare says "Connection established." and the next line is the error stating I'm not connected. Its like the server is online yet offline at the same time.

There seems to be an issue with reconnecting to previously used servers. I was on TCS for hours and then I lost the connection, and BeShare refused to reconnect at all, even after a system reboot. (I'm Jessica in BeShare, btw)

I have no idea, to be honest. Developers will likely notice this problem more, as compile jobs and their gobs of small temporary files cause serious fragmentation. As does getting huge volumes of email in BeMail and deleting lots of them (spam, etc).

Thanks for the explanation, MYOB. I guess the work-around would be to copy all files over to another partition, then delete all the original files, and then copy them back -- that should defragment the drive, no?

BFS fragments, badly. When a HDD is totally minced fragmentation wise, you can't create any files in one go bigger than the biggest empty block (or is it the size of a certian number of biggest empty blocks), or you get a disk full error.
Its not a bug, its just horrifically bad design and no defragmenter.

Hey Cold Fusion,
I think the problem you are seeing may not be a BeShare bug per se, but rather a bug with the Be File System failing when trying to write files that big (despite the fact that it's _supposed_ to be able to support terabyte-sized files :^P ). To test this theory, try opening a shell window and doing a "cat </dev/zero >reallybigfile.txt", and see if cat errors out with an "Error: no space left on device" message after adding a little more than 1 gigabyte to reallybigfile.txt. That's what happens on my machine, even though I still have plenty of free space available on the partition. :^(

If file is longer than 1124073472 bytes BeShare stop DL and You get an error message
It's happen 2 times (one I DL from m$ user and second from Be user)
To DL anyway I switch to m$ and finish DL drom 2 users without any problems using Unizone so I'm pretty sure it's BeShare error ......
Any solution ?

On a sidenote, someone else on BeShare last night ran the query for me in the same time frame. Where I'd get 3, they'd get 4 on Unizone 1.2.2 Win32. Not sure where this fits in.

Here's all the results I got, just had to sort thru them and find all the difs. The query I settled on for testing was 'beia' because it was one the first one that I tried that didn't either return too many results on one or none on the other.
System BeShare results "I'm firewalled"
box A- x86 Athlon-Dano ver. 2.16 15 results not checked
2.21 15 not
2.27 15 not
next day 2.26 14 not
2 checked
2.27 14 not
2 checked3
box B- x86 Geode-BeIA w/BONE ver. 2.26 3 results checked
2.27 3 checked
next day 2.26 14 not
2 checked
box C- PPC 2.26 15 not
2.27 15 not
next day 2.27 14 not
2 checked
So, if you 'have' to run with "I'm Firewalled" checked, you lose out on a LOT of queries.

What was the query you ran that showed these results? BePage's theory is good one -- perhaps boxes B and C had "I'm Firewalled" checked, and box A did not. In that case, box A would see results from other firewalled users as well, and boxes B and C would not see them. All boxes would see results from un-firewalled users.

Results didn't change, so it must be something on my systems. Mimetypes, attributes, something. Ineresting thing is someone else on BeShare at the time got a return of 4, same query a few seconds later. I then repeated and got 3 on 2 and 15 on one sys.

I had BeShare going on 3 systems while doing other stuff and tried running a query. When I turned around, I accidently ran the same query on another box and got different results. I then did some checking. These are all the same query, one after another on different systems and ver of BS.
box A- x86 Athlon BS ver 2.21 15 results
box B- x86 Geode in IA ver. 2.26 3 results
box C- PPC ver. 2.26 3 results
I then ran ver. 2.16 on box A and got 15 results.
I'm currently dl'ing 2.27 and will post results later.
It's not platform specific, so why do the older ver. return more results?
Email me and I will try to get you any related info that might help out.

proscom - BeShare is BONE-compatible. Most likely your problem is that your loopback device is not configured. BeShare relies on the loopback device to start up, and if it isn't present you will get the symptoms you describe. Open the Boneyard preferences app, and go to the "Interfaces" tab, and make sure there is a line in the list view that says "loop0 127.0.0.1 Static IP". If it is not present, then you need to add it. I don't know if there is a way to add it from the boneyard GUI, but you might be able to do it by editing the file /etc/network.conf with a text editor, and adding the following lines to the file (in the "IF: Network interface session"):
IF_loop0_DEV="loop0"
IF_loop0_FLAGS="loopback fastloop"
IF_loop0_IP_ADDR="127.0.0.1"
IF_loop0_IP_MASK="255.0.0.0"
IF_loop0_TYPE="static"

I am having trouble trying to start Beshare. This might have someting to do with it. I have just installed Bone. It was able to start to show a window at first but I could not connect or do anything. It wae frozen. I had to kill it. I tried to restart it but it would not show any window but was showing in the deskbar. I also had to kill it then. I tried reinstalling from the latest version. I had first deleted all previous beshare files except the settings and user key in config. It still would not start, so I tried deleting the settings and user key still no luck.
Does anyone no what my problem is or if it is incompatible with Bone.

BeShare already does use md5 hashing to determine whether two files with the same file name are in fact the same file (or whether the already-present-in-the-downloads-folder section of the file is the beginning of a file that you are trying to download). If BeShare starts a new file with a number in the name, that means that this test failed, because BeShare found there was a difference between the local and remote files. (if the test succeeds, BeShare will resume the download by appending to the existing file -- if the files are exactly identical, then no additional data will be written to the file). The most common reason for new files being created is because the existing file was corrupted somehow (e.g. by a system crash or sudden reboot), and thus doesn't match the contents of the file you want to download. In this case, you can sometimes use the 'filechopper' command line utility (available in the BeShare archive or via BeShare) to trim bytes off the end of your local file until the corrupted bytes are gone.
BeShare can resume a download from another person after a disconnect, but it won't do that automatically -- you will have to tell it to do so.

Would it be possible to have BeShare have some sort of configurable option for handling downloading identical files?
For example, I would personally prefer the option for it to realise an identical file has been downloaded, and so automatically skip it, whereas currently it seems to just create a new file with a number in filename.
Note: not to be confused with same filename. Perhaps something like MD5 hashing could be used? Like many popular P2P sharing apps seem to use to identify files.
Another option, although potentially quite slow, would be to have it check the downloaded files to see if they're the same file, even if the filenames differ.
And one tiny question: if the same file is shared by multiple people, is BeShare capable of resuming that download from an alternate source when the current source the file is being downloaded from disconnects (avoiding having to wait for that person to [hopefully] come back)?

Hi guys!!!
I know that BeShare do.
But, don't have in BeOS world an app like DC++.
Several peoples have questioned me about this app.
Several peoples uses Windows only to hear your mp3 files.
It's a nice idea port this app to BeOS.
I could give a hand testing the port (and some c++ code).
Try this.

Uh, I think the question is, is he even running BeOS or did he download this to Windows... if the system doesn't know what to do with it it's probably because he's not running BeOS. The likelyhood of the zip exiting clean & the contents being corrupt is pretty low... so the first thing to suggest is that you install the BeOS ;)

Hey da5id,
BeShare.x86 is compiled on a stock BeOS R5.0.3 system, and therefore it should run properly on any R5.0.3 BeOS (or any later version of BeOS that claims to be "R5 compatible", including BONE, Dan0, Zeta, and the like). I just downloaded and ran the posted 2.25 executable on my stock R5 box, and it works, therefore the problem must be either (a) your BeShare.x86 file got corrupted somehow, or (b) your system has somehow become incompatible with BeOS R5. You might first try re-downloading and re-unzipping the BeShare .zip archive, in case your copy got corrupted. If that doesn't help, then you might try re-compiling BeShare on your machine (see the file BeShare/source/HOWTOBUILD.txt for instructions on how to do that)

Would anyone else find it useful to have the option to initiate a file send in BeShare? I'm thinking that when I'm at work I could send a file home.
There could be various security options, such as Accept All, Accept Whitelist, Accept with password, etc.

Hi Bejay,
When I've seen that symptom (BeShare icon in the Deskbar but no window), I've found it was because there was no loop0 device configured in the BONE (Network) prefs panel's Interfaces tab. BeShare uses the loopback device to set up its internal threading system, and if it doesn't exist BeShare hangs up during setup. For reference, there are two lines in my Interfaces tab -- one for my Ethernet card, and one that says "loop0 127.0.0.1 Static IP". If your doesn't have this, you should try to add it -- I'm not sure how to add it via the GUI, but you might try editing your /etc/network.conf file with a text editor and adding the lines:
IF_LIST="tulip_0 loop0" // note this line will vary depending on what Ethernet card you have
IF_loop0_DEV="loop0"
IF_loop0_FLAGS="loopback fastloop"
IF_loop0_IP_ADDR="127.0.0.1"
IF_loop0_IP_MASK="255.0.0.0"
