Thanks for your help

Have you tried to enable rendering of Type 3 fonts? And of course for this cases you can enable the Ghostscript renderer in BePDF too.

No.

the font in the generated document for example?
Sorry, I do not know.

Has anything been done about documents with missing text? Is there any way I can add the missing fonts to BePDF, or just use another font?
I have a PS document that I used GhostScripct to convert to PDF, but the text doesn't appear in BePDF. Is it possible to tell GS to replace the font in the generated document for example?
Thanks a lot...and oh, I'm really grateful for BePDF!

The text is not visible because it is overwriten by the "row background rectangle" used in this particular document.
BePDF uses the BeOS API for rendering and this lacks filling and clipping modes that the PDF graphics model requires. I do not have time to fix that problem. I have implemented a workaround that simply prevents filling operations in unsupported modes. In this document the text is now readable but the background is not shown correctly.
This sounds worse than it really is. The next major version of BePDF will be base on xpdf 3.0 and xpdf 3.x has its own platform independent renderer and does not have this problem. However I do not know when this new port of xpdf will be available.

Hello Michael.
I have a 400+ pages .pdf datasheet (for the SiS630 chipset) that has corrupted xref's.
BePDF fails to open the file, albeit most of the pages can be rendered by both GS and Acrobat Reader.
Could it be possible to "relax" BePDF's logic so it can show the good pages?
The said datasheet is really hard to find, and all the copies I've found are corrupted in the same way (general thought is that it was corrupted even on SiS ftp site, when they were available), and as I've already tried to output a "fixed-up" version using GS (but the fonts end up hard to read) and having to use Acrobat isn't my favorite choise... It would rock if BePDF could just skip the broken pages (34 of 400+).
Ok, that's all. Thanks a lot for your work.
BiPolar.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for putting the auto-reload feature in BePDF. There's one problem though, the file needs an initial "Reload" after which it does auto-matically detect changes to the file and reloads nicely. Could you please fix it such that it can reload if the file changes without having reload done first?
I'd like to see this reload functionality in gs-be too :)
Ghostscript works nicely too :)
Thanks for your hard work Michael!
Brent.

I have some PDF files written in Hebrew, and the BePDF cannot handle them. The English characters included in the file are displayed properly, but in place of Hebrew ones I have empty spaces.
I've downloaded the Hebrew fonts package from the xpdf site, but I don't know how to install it; the README file provided with the package does not help - it has nothing to do with BeOS.
Please help!

I have not checked it yet, but your are probably right, BePDF or better xpdf 0.93 can not handle the used font types.

This feature would be more appropriated for small devices, anyway I do not have time to implement it.

Sorry, I guess that's because it's too new. Guess I should've posted that on the library comments.
I just thought of a neat feature that I don't think exists in other clients (might contribute to the killer-app-ness of BeOS)--it could work manually or automatically. If a document is split into multiple columns, it should be able to split them and re-arrange them so that you can a) only see one column (bigger type) and b) scroll as if the entire document were one column (continuously). Breaks from the column format, if this was automatic, could result in a normal full-width view (or if there are more columns, a resize to the new number) for those pages only.

To make a clean installation, remove all folders where BePDF has been installed previously.
Remove the following files (if they exist) from at least /boot/home/config/lib (use Tracker Find to locate them elsewhere):
libbepdf.so
libxpdf.so
libfreetype.so
And in /boot/home/config/add-ons remove the folder cid2utf8.
Now install BePDF again. Hope it works now.
In future version these libraries will be in the application folder and not global anymore to avoid version conflicts.
BTW can you please send me a screenshot with BePDF and the transparent document view.

nymia,
the source code is available via anonymous cvs (follow the link on the BePDF page) and use "BePDF" as the modulename to check out the source code from the cvs repository.
Additionally the development version of liblayout is required and the source code of FreeType 2 is required.
Send an email to me for instructions how to build BePDF.
