For some reason VLC 0.70-test1,2,3 and 0.70 itself all automatically select no audio on files - any files, including DVDs. This means that I have to go and select the audio myself from the languages listing.
edmundf this may be your problem too.

Is it possible for VLC to save volume and screen size preferences on a file-by-file basis, is BeOS attributes? Better yet, would it be possible to optionally use the mediaplayer attribs for it?

Thanks for this wonderful program. It plays 99,9% of my movie files, great. It's not important fo me, but I'd like to write it here:
The sound of a movie file pitches up and down a bit (sounds funny, when music plays), like an old record-player.
The preferences don't take effect on my machine. I tried every Version since 0.4, but it was the same at all. What do I do wrong?

Hi, thanx for the final version. Seems to work fine here. My question is why BeOS is the only plataform without input stream support? Should be compiled with BONE maybe?

Changing seems to work fine here, did you make sure you don't have the same key set for different shortcuts ?
Volume knob fixed in test3, as well as (hopefully) zenja's crash.
Preferences still aren't resizable, maybe sometimes after 0.7.0.

Hi titer!
Thanks for adding hotkey interface, but i discovered a bug here.
Try to change Navigation_[up|down|left|right|]shortcuts, save and reload vlc, and you will see, that shortcuts are still default one!
This is very annoying, because i'd like to make right/left - seek right/left 10 seconds by default (without Alt). And up/down - volume control (not a/z) which is no logical :( Also when you chanhe volume by shortcuts interface volume knob doesn't seems to be updating.
Ah, and another thing, could you please make preferences window resizable? which could remember the state of window.
P.S. i think old icon was cooler

With this version of VLC, I cannot play any videos under Zeta, yet the previous beta works fine (v0.7.0-test1). The video_output thread has a segment violation. Please ask for more details, but should be quite easy to reproduce on any Zeta box.

The new test version works better then 6.2, now it can play the AVI files (motion JPEG) captured from my Canon A70 camera. Before it just played the sound and the first couple of frames, then stopped updating the video. I had to fiddle with the settings to get sound working (guess the old settings file was getting in the way).
Still plays MPEG-4 nicely, as before. And QuickTime. Though you get the usual 1 pixel wide diagonal black line on some videos if hardware overlay mode is used.
MPEG-1 has the same occasional glitch, a colour bar at the bottom of FogSecurity.mpg. Doesn't happen in the BeOS media player.
It also doesn't play video for "Memorial Day (Upper)", which is on the BeOS R5 Pro CD, just the audio. Adding .AVI doesn't help. But then 6.2 doesn't play it either.
So, in other words, better than before!

Keep up the good work though - I look forward to the day when DVD watching is flawless in BeOS.

I really like the VLC player! There's one thing however that is a bit annoying. If you are looping one clip or watch a playlist with a few files, at the start of the (next) clip, VLC keeps opening the window at a top-left position and resizes it back to 100%.
How about keeping the window position and zoom level?
Thanks!

Hello. My primary question/note is that OGM support, while extant, seems to be resource hungry. My 500mhz CPUs cannot seem to decode an OGM movie fast enough to watch it (i.e. it decodes the frames so slowly they don't make it to screen because VLC decides not to bother displaying them since they're so old). I know a 500mhz CPU is not speedy, but my 600mhz laptop running WinXP with MediaPlayer (generally crappy program next to VLC) can decode the same OGM files and the CPU usage only registers around %50. Also, the laptop has 1x600mhz CPU, my XEON has 4x500mhz CPUs. One would think that if the single 600 can do such a job, 4 500s could as well.
Also, as a side note, VLC versions above 5.3 do not properly decode and playback DVDs on my system. I have an ATI Radeon 7500 PCI video card, plenty of RAM, two different DVD drives (one scsi one IDE)... I can watch my DVDs fine with VLC 5.3. In VLC 6.x the image gets all garbled with green blocks of color and doesn't refresh fast enough to match the audio. I have tried playing with all of the preferences I could fine. Some of them do make the playback better, but it is still unusable.
What should I do to properly submit a bug report to you?
BTW, THANKS SO MUCH FOR BRINGING WMV AND ASF PLAYBACK TO BEOS!!!

Sorry I missed your comments about this.
So there is an avi extractor bug in BeOS, can't
one of you smart guys fix this? I can't open some
avi's in either MediaPlayer or personalStudio, that's
a shame.
No way to convert it to something pStudio understands?

It does.
(I must have said that at least 10 times).
It uses mostly the codec library from FFMpeg.
Btw, you're mixing codecs and demuxers (which BeOS call extractors). The first one decodes audio and video data (DivX, MPEG4, WMA, ... are codecs), while the other just demultiplexes the files (there are demuxers for all file formats, like asf, mpeg, avi, ... though some bad minded ppl use the name of the codec used in the file as the extention, like .wma or .wmv...)
So, yes you can already use the codecs VLC uses, just download Hybrod Divx which contains FFDecoders.
However they are only codecs (actually only decoders), and not extractors, so it won't fix the avi extractor bug in BeOS, nor will it let you read mpeg2 files or ASF files in MediaPlayer.

It seems that VLC use it's own codecs, is it possible to add these codecs in the BeOS system so that other programs can use these as well? eg converting AVI to mpeg etc.

I did intend to try with the UDF addon, then forgot.

I borrowed a friend's matrix reloaded DVD (British if that makes a difference) to watch before seeing the third film, but File->Open Disk crashed out. HandBrake also crashed when "scanning title 1". I managed to get a file from DVDRip - but VLC crashed trying to play that too.
In 0.5.3, the video file played but with no video, and choppy audio. 0.4.6a (I think) was the same.
In the end, I booted Windows and downloaded vlc 0.6.2 for win and it worked perfectly. I'd much prefer to do my DVD watching in BeOS though.
Sorry no stack crawl...I've given the DVD back now too, and deleted the rip file.
Thanks for providing this though - it is a crucial app, that is always improving.

I use an AC97 audio driver which is locked at 48 khz. When I now play a 44 khz movie the player allways pitches the sound up and down or in the message window appears several times: audio output is starving (1231231 bla),playing silence ! I know that under dano everything works perfect but I want to use r5 ! When I use the old vlc player 0.4 there also are no problems but the sound comes 1 sec later...seems to be an endless prolem!
Any help ?

When enabling the clone/wall video modules, it will leave some of them open when the video is stopped, or even a new file has been opened.
Also, the settings are very hard and uncomfortable to use IMO - nice functional addition anyway.

Hi there!
VLC 0.60 is working nicely over here with MPEG1 and hardware overlay on my NeoMagic laptop displaycard :-)
I have a feature request though: can you please add single buffered overlay to the output module? This would enable the neomagic users to watch for instance DivX using overlay. Bear in mind that these laptops have low videomem (most have about 2Mb RAM..)
So it would be perfect if VLC tries double buffered overlay, and if that fails, falls back to single buffered overlay. If even that fails it should fallback to bitmap output..
Thanks a lot in advance!

If you start VLC on the 1st workspace and move main window to the 2nd and then open playlist or messages window, they will open in the 1st workspace.
Could you please add "Recent files" to menu?
It's sad that you didn't add features and fix bugs i told you here and on BeShare :(
Anyway, thanks for update.
