Yesterday I got both servers running and had time to play with both.
Running the server on Zeta RC3, and looking trough VNCviewer for BeOS on a BeOS 5 PRO machine, Mikael Eiman's VNC server was far more stable to connections/disconnections, far more frames/sec, and longer lasting. I was even able to remotely follow a porn Video !!! But Mikael's server seems not to implement remote mouse or keyboard control. I just see the mouse scrolling.
On the other hand, mmu_man's implementation is much fancier, with a deskbar icon, info panel, and lots more. But the settings bar did not open on Zeta RC3, and BeVNC failed with some video modes that Mikael's server did support. The shame was that f/s was very poor and that the server did hang as soon as I did too much mouse clicking. Oh, and I could not rich the whole screen (especially right area).
If you need to show somebody what he should do on his PC (remote helpdesk), or if you want to show somebody what you do, Mikael Eiman's server is fine and stable.
But if you need to actually control the server, you will need mmu_man's version. Anybody with programming skills willing to take over, I know mmu_man have a ton of other projects........
Thank you all, mmu_man, Mikael, Rob Judd & Oliver Kohl

I've been intending to continue development on BeVNC, but I'm still quite busy... besides, someone started to port the latest VNC (4), so.

So there are two VNC servers....
mmhhh. It looks incredible useful to me, and for 0$
Compared to the expensive solution in hardware like
<aref http://www.startech.com/ststore/itemdetail.cfm?ProductID=SV1105IPEXT&topbar=topbarks.htm>Startec IP KVM</a>.............
Do you intent to continue development in the future?
Thanks for this release by the way, I will test it at home.

I did all of the following but the BeVNC client is unable to connect for some reason. It is on the same local network as my Be machine and there is only a router inbetween them. Any more clues?

You need VNCServer for Windows to connect to an XP box. I just installed it some days ago and it works just fine. Just be sure that winVNC is running on the XP machine and start the client in BeOS. Ener the hostname (and if that doesn't work try using the IP), a password you set on the client and you're off. :)

I'm sorry I wasn't able to work on this and other things as well until now. Now my exams are over and so are the courses. I should have more time for coding :)
I already used BeVnc for more than 3 hours long without crashing, through my ADSL connection, while streaming my mp3 playlist back to school.
I used the bone version, which is more up-to-date. I also forced the client in requesting 8bpp, even if my workspace was in 32 bpp. Using 32bpp for the client wasn't reliable. The client I used was the Solaris vncviewer:

I was not able to get this to work on the system that I attempted to use it on. One of the concerns that I have include the fact that the install application assumes that the user is installing this locally, and has a standard monitor/keyboard/mouse setup. I do not think that this is always something that should be expected.
The error messages that I am seeing suggest that the client and server do not like each other's resolution requests.
Clients tested include xvncviewer from a debian linux box, RTVNCviewer under Windows 98, and both VNCviewers for BeOS that I have.
Top priority in my book would be to get this to function with different viewers. Next would be to get authentication working.
