Games are ROMS

Look a tiny bit further down this page. You'll see some links to sites where you can download games, which are called "ROM"s when talking about emulators.

There.

Easy.

However, I suspect you're using Microsoft Windows, so you'll need the Windows version of the emulator instead of the one here on BeBits. It's here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/vba/VisualBoyAdvance-1.7.2.zip

There are many roms for the vba at this link:
http://www.molh394.tk/
Otherwise, the vba is the best enulator i've ever used, with windows or BeOS. Roms run better, however, with BeOS.

Sound problems

Video emulation it's perfect (faster than Windows'), but sound is awfully worse: I hear a fraction of sound every 2-3 seconds... Does it mean I don't have a computer fast enough to work it? I have a Pentium II 350 with 192Mb and a Matrox Millenium G200 with 8Mb...
My sound card is a SB Live! Player 1024.
Do someone with similar machine expereince the same sound mess?

where are the games 4 it?

Faster than ever [overlay support]
 By shatty - Posted on February 10, 2004 - 22:17:53   (#11007)
Current version when comment was posted: 1.7.1
Hey all, if you have an overlay compatible card (almost any modern card) you can use it for VisualBoy Advance. The libSDL.so included contains my patches for overlay support which you can activate by using the -Y flag.

Most cards should use -Y 3. If you start at the command line you should see it say something like "Created 240x160x1 hardware YUY2 overlay". If it does, then you are good to go! Try adding -3 or -4, since scaling is now for free! (no processor cost)

These patches have been incorporated into the main SDL tree for those interested in such things.

in order to VBA work.

HavaFun :)

No more libpthread.so
 By goodoldgames - Posted on December 15, 2003 - 12:50:59   (#9970)

I just updated the ZIP file and the binary doesn't need libpthread.so anymore. Sorry if it caused any troubles!! If you want to run the old binary, install LibPak http://www.bebits.com/app/3322 to get pthread

does not work: missing libpthread.so

Hello all,

I'm sure that VisualBoyAdvance will be updated shortly after GoodOldGames recompiles to avoid linking to libpthread.so, or decides to provide that library with the package.

In BeOS executable files normally don't have an ending like ".exe" or ".com" ... they have no ending at all.

Open a terminal window ... change into the directory (cd /.../) where you unpacked VisualboyAdvance and start the emulator with: VisualBoyAdvance <path-to-rom>

Forgive me for screwing up the first submission of TBJ's mirror location.

I've since added the correct path, but the other one is still there.. I've tried to "report" it as bad, and if others can do the same, it should be removed automatically, IIRC.

Thanx.

Hi again,

judging by the Windows version this emulator is incredibly good. The rendering of Tactics Ogre was always faulty under Boycott Advance, unfortunately, but here it runs almost as smooth as on the real rig.

Very good stuff -- being able to play TOgre under BeOS would be extremely cool and erase just another reason to boot back into Windows.

Thanks!!

Eberhard
