When I use the search function to lookup documentation in BeIDE or double click on a bookmark directly the bookmark opens a Netpositive window but the window is always blank. I tried reexpanding the Be Book Bookmarks zip file in doc bookmarks but it did not help. Is this a bug or what could the problem be.
Also when I want to open a new project in BeIDE under x86, there is no C++ type to open it as. I openned the Development Tools in expander without expanding, and had a look to see if C++ was actually there but it is not. Does this version not include it and what is the reason for the change.

Instead of failsafe video mode choose failsafe mode. That eliminates bios calls, multiprocessor function, user addons and video driver. If it boots like that then you can add each of these one at a time with each boot to see where it stops booting. This could give you an idea where the problem is.

Try pressing space bar while boot. In the appearing Options Menu choose Fail Save graphic mode under Failsave options. Then choose a failsave graphic-mode (resolution).
If it works with this options, you need a new driver for your graphic card.
I had the same and that worked... on my machine.

Since there's only been a freely available version of QNX since 6.0, it's been specifically developed for modern hardware. The current version 6.2.1 actually recommends nothing slower than a 400Mhz processor, and I don't recall there being a 486DX/400 at any point. Also: QNX is not very ISA friendly, so that's another caveat. Cool OS beyond these concerns though.

On a further note though, FreeBSD does support such a box, however you'd most likely need to do an FTP-based install since most 486 BIOSes I've seen do not support booting off CDs. In any case, if you'd like to try that, instructions for creating the appropriate boot floppies can be found here:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/install-pre.html

No version of BeOS will run on a 486, due to its usage of various Pentium-specific instructions, most notably that it uses RDTSC for all of its timing. As such you're out of luck getting BeOS to run on it, regardless of how old a revision you try.

No versions of BeOS run on 486-class and earlier machines. BeOS did not run on x86 machines until 1998, by when 486's were DEAD.
You need Windows or Linux installed to use these installers. Not DOS.
Better suggestion is to use something like BeOS Max Edition: www.beosmax.org which is on a bootable CD

Hey...
SBC works using a standard implementation of PPPoE. I used it for a few days on both BeOS r5.03 Pro with the driver found here on Bebits. I was also able to connect with the built in PPPoE service that comes with Dano without any problems.
However, if you have the option to switch to cable, please do so. Where I live, the DSL was getting a maximum of 40 Kilobytes a second download. Pathetic. So, I switched to cable, and all has been much better, with an 8x gain in overall throughput.
As far as what you are running as an OS not being supported, who cares? There's no one there at SBC that is smart enough or informed enough to actually know about other operating systems such as BeOS or Linux, or others...

how do you hook up your dsl modem? SBCYahoo! DSL certainly doesn't support BeOS, but my gf's comp on which I installed BeOS alongside W2k connects fine with BeOS. If your modem is connected via ethernet, I don't see any reason why it would not be able to connect to the Internet.

You need that (^^^ in the title) plus some knowledge of how to burn it - Nero needs some enticing...
Why don't you get BeOS Professional? http://www.purplus.com has it for about 29 dollars, and its already updated to R5.03 (this is 5.00), and includes RealPlayer, an MP3 encoder, a realtime Indeo codec, better print drivers and better documentation. Also includes the development tools

This is a full summary of my PC:
Athlon XP 1800+, 512 PC133, ATI Radeon 9100, 80 Gb, Windows XP Pro (all partitions in NTFS)
I have downloaded BEOS 5 Personal Edition from several sources, but each does the same. When I double-click on the self-extractor, I click on the CONTINUE button, the progress bar goes once through "Reading Package", but then halts the second time the progress bar goes through "Reading Package" and displays the following error:
"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of this file, verify its integrity, and try again."
Any suggestions and help will be very much appreciated!

No there is not, because Be dropped support for PowerPC. You must buy R5.03 Pro, which supports both PPC and Intel, but be warned, 50% of apps for BeOS do not have PPC versions. Get an old Intel PC and use the Pro CD on it.
Also, you need a Pre-G3 PPC to run it on. A 603 or 604. Not a G3, 4 or 5

But only see versions for Windows and Linux. Is there a Mac (PPC) version here?
