Deleted the original and I got a grayscale 640x480x8 bit screen, I'll try to compile the source from one of the newer src packages

Ati Radeon for Zeta

I'm a complete n00b.
Now that that's out of the way, here's my dillema:
I have an Ati Radeon 9200 SE.
I also am a complete n00b to Zeta.I'm mostly learning along the way,and what a fun way it is ^^
All I could find were R5(I suspect R5 is another OS with a BeOS base, since I didn't find any program called "R5" than ran under Zeta) Radeon drivers.
Where are all the Zeta ones?
Btw,I also tried to download the R5 ones(hey,it works...sometimes) but I get this "Can't open 'radeon' with 'radeon' " screen.
Anyone care to shed some light onto my dark head?
I'd really appreciate it.
Love&Peace!

No download button necessary in your case.

This is not a windows driver site, it's for a completely different operating system called BeOS. If you want a radeon driver for windows go to http://ati.amd.com/

I can't find the [DOWNLOAD] button ???

I'm wondering if I'm the only one on the planet that can't find a button to push to download a driver from you. Whatever. Please tell me how to download a driver for my "ATI Radeon 9500 PRO/9700 secondary" if you have that. Otherwise I have the ATI.AMD installer waiting but it won't install until I have *something* known as an ATI driver already in my computer.. (This must have kept them awake several nights to think up this little 'Catch 22'.
Thank you very much for your help.

Nope.

Unfortunately, no. There isn't even an open source 2D driver for that chipset under Linux and the necessary documentation to support that chipset under BeOS is unavailable.

I have recently bought ASUS A6J notebook,
so i would be very happy to use Zeta 1.2 in it.

Is it possible to modify current driver to support
this card:

Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1600
Vendor: 0x1002
Device: 0x71C5

Bus Type PCI Express
Memory Size 512 MB
Memory Type HyperMemory

thanx for the answer in advance :)

Can this be compiled to work on PPC?

i have a UMAX S900 that runs BeOS rather nicely. i am also trying to use the machine with MacOS X (had success for a while, then tried to upgrade to 10.4). i know i need a better video card for OSX, so i was going to get an ATI Radeon 9200 PCI. i see that you have the source available. If you are unable to do a compile for PPC, can you give me general instructions on how to do it? i'd be happy to do it so that there is a PPC version available. i'm not good with compiling and whatnot unless it's automated.

Laptops with no backlight

I managed to fix some of the laptop backlight issues, but for some reason some still don't work. I don't know the reason, and suspect it may be a ACPI integration issue. EG some laptops have the backlight controlled via ACPI. But I have no knowledge of that so I don't know.

I unfortunately can't use any radeon driver. The original from Thomas Kurschel has no support for the X-Series cards, and with Euans driver, I can't get the laptopt backlight enabled. So I am caught in 1400x1050 Vesa-Mode ;)
And I assume Euan would agree, that neither version of the "talkback-drivers" can be regarded fully stable as he has been "coding in the dark"; mostly without the real hardware in his hands.

So, euan's "talkback-realease" is more up-to-date? If so, this will solve my video issues. Have you used the newest release? Is V5.1.6.1 stable? The old 5.0.x release I have is not working for my card and I would like to get out of VESA mode. Thanks

Yes, they both differ. The one in the haiku repository is the last maintained version from Thomas Kurschel. Euan did quite some modifications to that codebase now found in this "talkback-releases". IIRC, Euan was attempting to get his changes into the Haiku-repository, though.

I have to restart and sometimes it goes back to normal mode but this happen often any idea what I can do. Busy downloading updated driver to see if this will fix the problem.

I don't think a new entry would fix the problem, as this one would swamp all searches... It really needs the author, or site owners to fix. :(

Just wanted to ask if there is nobody able to remove some of the (in the meanwhile) hundreds of download-entries here. Most of them are dead anyway.
The most recent version is to be downloaded from addresses posted in this talkback.

I don't know whether Thomas Kurschel is still working for 5038. Maybe Euan could make a new entry for the driver on BeBits?

Just something to think about :)

This is based on the X300, so it should work using the driver linked below (and very soon to be commited to the Haiku source tree when I get time).

If it doesn't work, it should only need some device ID's added which is easy to do.

This version worked great:
http://euank.users.btopenworld.com/beos/BeOS_Radeon_V5.1.6.1_Bin.zip
on my Thinkpad T41p which has:
ATI - RV350-WS - Radeon Mobility M10 NT
Vendor: 0x1002 - Device: 0x4E54
on Zeta 1.2

The version on BeBits (5.1?) did not work.

Yes, that pretty much is the bug for the people who still don't have the problem. I'm up to V5.1.6.2 now, but zeta only, and have sent to only 1 person so far for testing.

I must say this LCD issue is a major PITA! :) There is a patch in development for X.org but it still doesn't fix this issue, not to mention the BeOS driver is slightly different...

Thanks for working r5 link

I just tried it, and here it also "turns off" LCD.

ATI Radeon M10 (9600 with RV350 NP graphics chip). No external monitors tried.

What You mentioned about LVDS indeed may have something to do with that:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/22985

BUT when i tried driver few releases back LCD worked... only image was unreadable (either screwed totally, or with horizontal "lines" animating all the time in later releases :). Now i hope image is ok and it's just LCD which is "turned off", hehe.

Just a minor tidy up of log output, Shouldn't effect LCD function compared to V5.1.6.0. Still working on that...

Seems like Xseries laptops have the monitor routing backwards, and the "LVDS" display type isn't detected. I think X require these machines to manually specify "LVDS" in the X config file if anyone knows if this is true or not let me know thanks!

So far 3 positive reports 1 negative. :)

There's a few bugs I've found in testing. One is don't connect a monitor up to the laptop, unless you have the "use laptop panel" option set to no.

Second is using the DVI-VGA dongle doesn't work for some reason.
