It even starts with built-in flatpanel. Kind of.
Very slowly, though. Mouse cursor appears on screen, then, in about 5-10 minutes (2 GHz Celeron!) it draws shapes of folders and deskbar. Mostly white on black, but there are some others dark colors present, like dark-red-cyan, dark green. Tried to press PrtScr, but no screen*tga appeared in home folder in reasonable time. At last it all freezed.
Btw, i wondering if having setting file with gfx_mem_size in kernel/drivers may help, but i didn't see such preference file for Radeon driver (as it was for i810, nvidia and matrox)

I didnt realize ATI made a "mobile" version of the Fire GL's. What kind of laptop or "system" do you have that your running a CGI/Pro development card in it.

hi,
are there any new enlightments on the problem with my FireGL T2 (0x4e54)?
with the newest driver-version the lowest third of my screen shows some neongreen lines and in the the upper third there are 2 little squares of some graphical distortion, but nothing to identify.
and the system hangs itself - there is no reaction what so ever.
anyhow thanks for your work.

That's interesting: I thought that support of _all_ Radeon7000VE were broken. Could you please send me the PCI ID of your card?
ICM-support: I have no clue about ICM and I think that there may even be copyright issues, so I cannot really tell you whether ICM is possible, but I'll take a look.

Well my gf is away ATM, so I had the chance to try out dualhead-support with 2 LCDs and the new driver (also worked with the old one) :^))
@MYOB: I have no probs here with dualhead - one LCD is connected via DVI (Acer AL712), the other (Eizo) is connected via VGA.
However the picture looks better under XP on the DVI-connected Acer... must be the color-profile
@topical: any chance you hack in ICM-support? :^)
Regarding my initial question, I was just wondering if it would be of any use for RadeonVE-owners like me to upgrade, but I had no probs with the old version.
Thanks for a great (dual-)driver... oh my, I wish I could work with 2 monitors all the time, I could really get used to that;)

Newer versions do not work with DVI on Radeon 9100 Card ID 514d.
RadeonDriver_v3.2.8 (and 3.2.7 from Zeta RC2) works perfect up to 1024x769.
A TFT is connected via DVI. Tested with BeOS and Zeta on the same machine.
The driver works without a problem when the VGA Port is used even in higher resolutions.
It would be nice if you can look at this. Thanks for your fantastic work on this driver.

If you have a Laptop with a built-in flatpanel or an external flatpanel connected via DVI, the driver automatically detects its native resolution and adds it to the list of available resolutions, i.e. it can be choosen in the Screen Preferences Panel and with any other program too (e.g. my laptop has 1400x1050, so the driver publishes this resolution too).
One warning about this, though: you shouldn't use these non-standard resolutions with CRTs (in my case: don't choose 1400x1050 if an external monitor is connected) - their timing is TFT-specific (so called Reduced Timing) and some CRTs don't like that!

There should be a read me & if I remmeber there is an installation script as well. If you have to do it manually you move the files not execute them, they are drivers aside from the radeon preferences panel so the system executes them not you. move them to your boot/home/config/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin then make a link of that bin once it is in place in the /boot/home/config/add-ons/kernel/drivers/dev/graphics folder. Then move the acelerant to the /boot/home/config/add-ons/accelerants folder, reboot...

I was able to obtain a syslog by hooking up the external monitor and booting as far as it would go, then looking at the syslog later by booting up in fail-safe video mode. Perhaps that will not work for all laptops, but it worked for me. This syslog wasn't overly verbose, so for completeness, I sent Thomas a syslog that was obtained by hooking up a null modem cable between the laptop with the IGP Radeon and another BeOS computer running SerialConnect. This hardware debug output was much more complete, and as such, I sent it to Thomas.
Thomas looked at this output and didn't notice anything wrong except for the fact that no IRQ is assigned to my video. Perhaps this has something to do with the problem. You may want to boot up in fail-safe video mode and see if there is no IRQ assigned to your VGA as well.

Howdy,
Has anybody that has been using this driver on a Radeon Mobility 9600 or 9700 chipset, with a widescreen TFT, been able to get a widescreen display size?
Would there be someway to somehow create such non-standard display sizes for not just this, but on other display devices using any of the other chipsets. Since I haven't really used any of the OpenBeOS version of the display panel, I wouldn't know if that is possible. They used to have a program for set non-standard displays, but it I believe was for Pre-BeOS5.
I'm trying to find a laptop with the Radeon Mobility 9700, but with a standard size screen just in case.
Thanks for continuing to make BeOS and Zeta even better to use.

Same story here with ram, I only have 256MB and my graphics uses 16MB. BeOS sees 240MB, so it doesn't look like there's a collision.
I'll try the external monitor trick to try and get a syslog output.
Cheers,
Andrew

BeOS (Zeta in my particular case) sees the proper amount of RAM, so there is no collision. At least this applies on my Compaq 2170US laptop with the most recent firmware.
For example, I have 512 MB of RAM, and if I allocate 64 MB of RAM to the video in the BIOS, the BeOS sees 458752 KB, which is the correct RAM amount of 448 MB (512 minus 64).
I tried every other RAM allocation setting, and the "About Box" showed the proper amount in every case.
That's all I have for now.

This sounds like the memory reserved for graphics is used as normal memory too. Could you please check how much memory BeOS sees? If it's the same as total memory, we have a collision.

I have noticed the same thing happen as llama (See topic "Still no joy") while using Zeta. However, I have made another observation. If I plug in an external monitor and then try booting, I can get Zeta to at least partially boot up. Without plugging in the external monitor, the computer just freezes up after the last boot icon, and no syslog is written. But with the external monitor plugged in, the boot gets far enough into the OS that I can see my background (which is the wrong color and has lots of bars, etc running through it). Fortunately in this case however, a syslog is written. I plan on providing a syslog later tonight, as that should be helpful in resolving the issue. Also, I'll send a copy of my vgabios.bin too. I plan on picking up a null modem cable tonight, so perhaps I can get some information from that as well.
Oh yeah, and one last thing. I noticed that by changing the amount of RAM available to the IGP (8, 16, 32, 64, 128MB, or auto), the "crash display" is somewhat different for each case. Not sure if this has anything to do with the issue, but I found it somewhat odd.

For some reason, when I was happily playing a video game (NHL2004), my laptop froze. Upon a manual reboot, a blue screen came up saying it was dumping my physical memory...then the Windows Logo is seen as Windows is trying to load. Then it asks me if I want to start in Safe Mode or not.
If I start normally, my computer automatically reboots and I'm back to the memory dump.
If I go into safe mode, WinXP Pro gave me a system error saying that there was something wrong with my video graphics drivers. If I remove my ATI Radeon 9000 driver, I am able to restart Windows in normal mode, but with a default VGA driver there. Everytime I try to re-install ATI Radeon 9000 drivers, the next time I cannot start windows normally. I can only do so when I uninstall Radeon 9000 drivers in Safe Mode.
With the default video card, when I drag windows around or scroll up and down (i.e. in Internet Explorer), the pages refresh slow and it's very choppy and very annoying!)
Would anyone know how I can go about re-installing my Radeon 9000 drivers without having my system crash? Do I need to re-install Windows?
THANKS!!!!
