it seems to me that the LeBuzz distro is the only legal one shipping on CD, as it's way older, and certainly was done with the agreement of Be Inc, unlike the new ones poping up. :^)

You can still find BeOS R5 Pro on sale at purplus.com. You can also get the Buzz CD which has BeOS R5 personal plus some extra software; it's sold by lebuzz.com, and you can buy it there or you could probably find copies of it for sale on Ebay.

Thanks for the address. However, that company ships from Germany. I suppose I should have mentioned that I live in the U.S. and would prefer to avoid the long delivery time and high postage cost associated with an overseas delivery. So, is there a U.S. source for BeOS on CD? Amazon.com used to offer Gobe BeOS, but no longer.

Is there any way to obtain an installable version of BeOS Max Edition on CD? I use a dialup connection, and the time to download is prohibitive. I want to install BeOS on it's own harddrive, NOT run it from within Windows (as the BeOS Personal Edition). Computer is already set up, used to have a Linux distro, in that space, but had hardware and driver issues, and decided to try BeOS.

With reference to my previous question (# 7248) I have already downloaded the whole program. In the Readme1st file there I saw "... first thing you will need is an El-Torito boot image for your kind of processor... if you have a Pentium Processor (P4 mostly) get this P4Cue.zip... so that BeOS5PEMaxEditionV(xx).img points to your version of the .img file... Where can I get this boot image (my laptop has a PIII Celeron processor) and, in short, I would be very grateful if somebody can explain the process of burning the CD as to obtain a full working CD-ROM of BeOSPEMaxEdition!

The standard BeOS 5 Personal Edition works "inside" Windows. These are my first steps with BeOS and I don't know if the BeOS PE Max Edition can be installed on a new PC without operating system (in the details about this version the 1st statement is "Installation Boot-CD"). Can anybody help?

If you mean you copy from Fat32 (where the file is full) and it just stops at 12mb, that is a known bug. Just unzip from Fat32 into BFS, don't copy the zip file. If you mean something else mail me by clicking on my name above.

I wanted to try out BeOS in my machine but am having difficulty with the zip file it comes in. As it is downloading it looks to be gettting the whole file but once the transfer is complete the file is truncated to about 12mb. I have tried on both the PE and max versions and the same thing occurs. This is the only time I have experienced something like this. I am downloading to a wintel machine. Has any one else ever had this problem?

Max V3 is on the works, however the team is busy with making a living also :-) There is a vote for the Max V3 logo on BeOSMax.org that will last for 2 more weeks. By then V3 should be almost ready.
As for support, if the drivers exist we will include them, but we are not developers (at least not on BeOS).
Search on BeBits for support on Hebrew and Arabic.
Your P1 didn't work because you installed the GifTranslator 1.3 (causes not PII systems to crash) and not the original Gif Translator (check options during setup).

I love my max ed. 2.1 when it is running on my P4.
2.1 did not work on the old P1 200MHz. tracker problems.
I have few questions.
When is 3.0 it due?
Can we add support for the onboard audio in the P4 supporting mother boards chipsets?
Is there any support for funny (right to left) languages as Hebrew or Arabic in BeOS?
THX and have fun while doing a great job.

Yes but sadly if thatw as the case Be Inc. would have never have gone out of business. These major OEM's wont touch anything other hen M$ because of licensing. They cannot risk the slightest loss to their share holders. Every finacial quarter they expect growth & offering a line of Desktops with a non-Microsoft OS weould change the licensing agreement's with M$ resulting in a profit loss & immediate repercussions from the share & stock holders. It will take years or massive refusal by the public to change the tides. If we can inform the general public & mke them care about the dirty politics they bring into their home when they buy microsoft then maybe the demand for alternatives would increase to where loss is guaranteed thus it would force them to rectify the situation - They need to ship units thus they will offer a product that will sell & since microsoft no longer sells in this situation they will risk the alternatives as the licensing restrictions imposed by M$ are no longer relivant to the OEM's financial plan.

Your funny what do you thnk BeWINE is? In any case it's not gonna happen. Hardware GL is in Zeta & as I stated with mesa
we can move forward all we want but untill we can become
viable enough & weild a massive user base developers wont
care. Thusly no one will develop 3d titles of a decent nature
to use the GL with. I'm not saying some guys can't whip up a
great 3D game... but people wanna play the same crap they find
on Windows so it doesnt much matter. Ok thats a ubre simplified explanation but I dont wanna ellaborate.

i'm not a zealot - my opinion about linux community comes from past experiences. i'm not saying all linux users are bad (i know pretty much good ones :), in fact after A LOT of opinions like mine, now they're getting much nicer for newbies. or maybe it's because of linux getting popularity, so older (i mean ppl who use linux for a longer time) users don't have to attack anyone - they have position now.
and probably the same happens to BeOS - older users see how it's becoming rusty and forgotten and they're more and more angry about that (and comments about BeOS dead etc.. just makes case worse).
zealots are the ones attacking anyone because of anything.
BTW i have linux installed here too - i use it shortly after each new (different) distro install, and come back to BeOS + windows, linux still lacks here and there but is getting to it VERY quickly now.

that guy asked nicely, why You're acting like a ***? You could answer nicely too.
BeOS community becomes more and more like linux each day :(
BTW it would be good to have voting for each post. Enough votes would move the post to "moderated", so answers could also go there, but wouldn't stay offtopic.

Actually, somehow with the magic occuring in the world of computing, Nero and WinMX now ONLY work on BeOS.
Microsoft is calling its many goons to try and fix the problem, while BeOS zealot, looncraz, with his new Barret .5, cammos, and a GPS device running Zeta Pad Edition (like Zeta Embedded), drives his 345HP 240 Volvo to Seatle, full-throttle, to irradicate the Microsoft goon squad threat before it manages to get past 2 Microsoft Way.

If you haven't read my earlier posts, I had trouble with Max getting a functional desktop. Thanks to info from Vassilis Perantzakis, this was solved. If you are installing on an older machine, you might want to try disable the newer Gif patch, and enable the older version, plus disable the processer/kernel patches. I am listening to BeOS radio, and entering this info through an old 1st gen Pentium, with no hiccups.

PS give BeOS radio a listen...COOOL STUFF! I live in a small twon where we would NEVER hear this eclectic blend.
