Well I'd go for deskbarctl else, but deskbar looks fine. Something soon to be in OBOS /methinks =)
> Winkey+A /boot/home/config/bin/deskbar --setlocation=B_DESKBAR_RIGHT_TOP
> Winkey+Z /boot/home/config/bin/deskbar --setlocation=B_DESKBAR_BOTTOM
And don't remember the hey Deskbar BeMn :)) (which I bind here to Win-Space).

Everything is possible :)
hey Deskbar set Minimize of Window "Deskbar" to true
Now, to toogle... well, let's do something like:
/bin/sh -c "hey Deskbar set Minimize of Window Deskbar to $(hey Deskbar get Minimize of Window Deskbar | grep result | sed 's/.*FALSE.*/true/; s/.*TRUE.*/false/')"
(the /bin/sh -c is for SpicyKeys not to bail out)
Enjoy
:-)
(I guess a --toogle-hide and --hide bool option can be added to deskbar too for next version :)

I thought about this beforehand, but I felt that it's perfectly acceptable for a command-line tool controlling a system component to share the name. CLI apps usually have lowercase names whereas GUI apps have Initial caps. The name-sharing hints to the 1-to-1 relation.
Many of the apps I make are intended for inclusion in my (hopefully) future distro, which is why I don't name them "jonas groovy deskbar tool", or whatever. There could be several foo-control apps, but there can be only one official 'foo' shell tool.
(There can be only one!.. :)))

Hi,
I think some of the confusion as to people asking what this does is caused by the name. deskbar sounds like it replaces the deskbar. I would prefer something like controldeskbar or deskbarcontrol

I usually prefer the Deskbar to be located on the upper right corner of the screen (and Always on Top), but sometimes it gets in the way (e.g. obstructing Mozilla's CloseTab button).
But now, thanks to this app, I can configure SpicyKeys to throw the Deskbar away with a simple shortcut. Here's how it's configured on my machine:
Winkey+A /boot/home/config/bin/deskbar --setlocation=B_DESKBAR_RIGHT_TOP
Winkey+Z /boot/home/config/bin/deskbar --setlocation=B_DESKBAR_BOTTOM
The first option is the classic Deskbar, the second is very similar to WinXP's Taskbar. The best of both worlds... if I could only mimic the manual hide/show Dock in OS X (Command+Option+D), this would perfect, but I don't think it's possible in BeOS...
Thanks, Jonas, at least someone here likes this - a lot! :-)

Any Chance you could make this some how prioritize how Deskbar replicants load? So you can make them load in a certain order making things neat & pretty?

It's a shell tool to set the very basic properties of the Deskbar.. it's location, whether it's expanded or not, and it lets you add/remove deskbar replicants.. all via Terminal or a script.
It does not, however, offer any control over the bells&whistle-features of Deskbar. (current&future OpenTracker extension) What you see in BDeskbar (check the BeBook) is what you get.
I made this app since I felt it was missing, but I don't expect much hoopla about it.
