sadly, the current cvs of giFT doesn't compile...
rather, they fixed circular dependencies in giFT itself, but the OpenFT plugin doesn't compile.
No ETA for a fix yet.

Where is it?

New release soon

OK I've found out that there are some missing files, so expect a new package in a couple of days!

Since giFT is updated daily and needs to be updated at least every third day (according to the authors) I'm making a script that will download the latest CVS and compile/install.

Also I'm thinking of creating a complete pkg file wich will include perl, libncurses, automake, autoconf, libtool, cvs etc. (i.e everything to use and maintain giFT)

Please post any suggestions or questions!

I've done all that

I've done all that & the logs don't say anything that sticks out as a problem.

be sure:

- to run giFT-setup
- to read the questions and answer correctly (the first question at least :)
- try to remove ~/.giFT/OpenFT/nodes
- check the log file ~/.giFT/gift.log

same as BGA 0 users - no connection

Actually 'beterm' is the name of the terminfo file needed by ncurses to control the BeOS Terminal.
You can get it by downloading the last ncurses IIRC. giFT has some dependencies... Now you know why I waited before doing a package :P

just doesnt work here

Well you wanted some feed back so here it is. I installed perl, ran the config & tried to run it. The bins or script to run them both are looking for bterm. I belive this is the terminal app in the Be Inc sample code. In any case I don't have it on here unless this is a call & not looking for the app bterm. In any case it doesnt work. I could have botched something cuz I'm brutal tired but here is your feed back :p

Thank you for your note. Libncurses.so is now included!

As for you problems, may it be that you have old giFT settings left? giFT is updated daily so it seems that one version isn't the same as another.

As for the /usr/local/share/giFT/mime.types error, I don't have such file located in that dir. and it works just fine here?!

If you are able, please tell me if you have any of the libs meantioned here (http://gift.sourceforge.net/docs.php?document=install.html)

As for the file mime.types. Mine is located at /boot/home/config/share/giFT but it seems optional since giFT works just fine without it (at least here). Did you recompile giFT? The source isn't modified for BeOS so you have to use ./configure --prefix=/boot/home/config && make

Maybe the files located in ../share/giFT needs to be included. I didn't go for much testing except for my own machine so I'd be glad for more feedback.

Thanks!

Just noticed something else in the log.

Not connecting?

So I download and installed the ncurses package and now the program works. But it seems it does not connect to the servers as it reports 0 users being connected. I *DID* configured it and, in fact, the other version of giFT for BeOS ported a while ago (yep not the port you did) works without problems.

The giFT log file does not provide any information about it trying to connect to anything. The only thing that may or may not be relevant that I found in thelog is this:

[09:46] *** GIFT-ERROR: failed to open /usr/local/share/giFT/mime.types

You can open a Terminal and type:
tail -f ~/.giFT/gift.log
to see what happens.

Oh, and btw, thx to the porter :-P

It looks like you haven't configured giFT. Be sure to use 'perl setup_gift' in terminal before launching the script. If it still won't work, launch giFT manually in terminal and check for any errors posted in the terminal window.
