FYI, it builds on PPC with no changes. I've only done minimal testing so far, but it seems stable. Nice work.

Thanks for thos app - it works great!
I have just one small feature request.
It is pointless to show freq. down to 45Hz.
Why not have the lowest freq. be 56Hz?
And boost the max freq. up to about 160Hz?
Is it possible to adjust the screen position with your app?
I know it is with Be's screen preferences.

The replacement is great, so far it works correctly.
Just one observation, when changing desktops (using ALT-F1~n), the app does not change the specifications accordingly if it is already open.

nice to see it so far take 50K less :) that is arouns 30% smaller!
The only problem i see so far is position. For exemple put the panel bottom-right, choose a smaller resolution than you currently have, do revert so it come back to original size after the preview. You see the window is not comming back to is original position. The original one have not this problem.
I get that anoying problem with LnLancher also and many other app. this should be fixed at the OS level i think. The tracker could also benefit from it as it's mucho annoying to have our desktop all mixed because an app (very much often a full sreen game) did a move of icon to fit the screen.

You need to set font size to current-1 so it will be the same as Be's original Screen applet.

.. if there would be some way to allow a graphics driver to display specific settings (e.g. for the dualscreen-support from the radeon-driver =))

First of all, thanks for the feedback. It's easier to work on an application if the users report its bugs.
Deskbar crashing: I don't think it's related at all. I don't use any deskbar function, but one can't be sure, so if you have the stack crawl of the crash, it could be useful (hit "debugger" in the window that tells you that the deskbar is crashed, then write "sc", then send me the log).
Desktop preview: Yes, it should be drawn, it's a bug and I'm working on it. Since I don't like the way BeOS draws the little screen, I tought I'd use a different method, and currently, in the version I have at home, I can choose at compile time to use the Be method or the "windows" method (a bitmap which is scaled depending on the resolution). In the next version (I guess it will be finished soon, probably this week) this will be fixed.
And no, I am not working with Thomas Kurschel. This app was originally done by Rafael Romo, but he had some problems which he couldn't solve, and left the application in a non-working state. I took over his work and fixed some things.
For the strange refresh issue.... I'm currently looking into this problem, it's a bit hard since my monitor is a 15" which only supports some refresh rates/resolutions, while my GFX card supports many combos... anyway, I think it could work better in the next version.
And, for the people who noticed that the app lacks an icon.... there was a problem with the CVS not handling correctly the resource file, it should be already fixed in the openBeOS CVS (for those who dare to compile apps from the sources).
Last but not least, I prefer if you send me bug reports via e-mail, since I read it every day, while this isn't true for these pages.

I can't be sure it's related, but my Deskbar has crashed several times after I used this application and set my monitor to 100Hz. Before (@85Hz) it crashed at most once every other month, usually due to a bad replicant.

Doxtur, in R5 fine adjustment is possible with modifier keys + arrows.
So maybe here we should use same features

Okay, so 100 Hz won't work, 95 Hz won't work, 105 Hz won't work, but 110 does. Clearly, my monitor is picky.
I'll think I'll stick to 90 for now, because I get an odd bit of distortion along one edge at 110. Still, it's very strange that 110 works when 100 won't.
Anybody have an explanation, just for curiosity?

This monitor works fine at 1280x1024 and 100Hz in Windows and with xfree86 versions 4.2 and older. Oddly with xfree 4.3, I get the same sort of result as with this app. The screen just goes blank if I set anything higher than 85 with X.ViewSonic rates it at 110 Hz at 1280x1024.
It has been suggested to me that the problem in X is with the EDID of the monitor, which limits it to a conservative 85Hz, but I have no idea whether this is correct or not. Maybe it's just a picky monitor.

Nice to see first results of the OpenBeOS project, even if they are so tiny :-)
The screen dimension preview image on the left side of your app seems to appear only if you perform an action on the resolution combo box. By default, the left side is empty. Shouldn't there be a preview of the currently used resolution after starting your app?
Thomas Kurschel delivers his own extended screen preference panel with his Radeon Driver. Did you work with him on this panel?

maybe you cannot actually go above 90Hz? Monitor or card limitation
try in *nix or Windows, see if its actually a BeOS-only error

Every time I try to set a refresh higher than 90 hz the monitor goes blank until the timeout resets it to the previous setting.
I'm using a Radeon 8500 and a ViewSonic GS815 monitor.
Any ideas?

Sure. If they work in R5's Screen, I have to implement them.... have you a list of these shortcuts with the function they have ?

There have been shortcuts in the R4 Screen preflet, in R5 they are hidden but still works. IIRC those are Alt+X, Alt+D and some others. Do you plan to implement it?

"one suggestion - when i choose Other... refresh rate with slider (120 Hz for example), Apply and then revert to normal from 6-7 seconds, slider still show me 120 Hz, should it show me current refresh?"
Hm, how does R5 behave? I'll check it later, and fix it if it's the case.
"And, i want to set my refreshrates not only with slider ... maybe i prefer input digits, or choose it with small steps."
Yes. I too dislike the slider. But since R5's Screen used that slider, this app (which Rafael Romo began, and then I finished) too uses a slider. The problem with the slider is also that I have to somewhat "limit" the maximum selectable refresh, since a slider which goes up to 200hz would be terrible.
"Maybe "Test" button in window where i choosing custom refresh rate?"
Yeah, that would be an option. We shall see.
Thank you for your advices :=)

it's great, i just love OpenBeos :)
