Doing this is possible, but a bit complicated at the moment. While dragging a bitmap file (or files) from Tracker, you have to hold down <shift> so that the drop mark in the layer list view becomes a red line. The bitmap will then be added as a new layer where you have dropped it. If you want to copy the bitmap to another layer, you have to select the Bitmap modifier in the History, select Copy from the History menu, then switch to the other layer, select Paste from the History again. Note that you can "render" all the modifiers from a layer into a single "Bitmap" modifier by selecting History->Freeze (currently works on all the modifiers of that layer ignoring a possible selection in the History listview).

-Stephan

I like what this app is becoming :D...It is clearly an example of an easy to use, fast program that a BeOS program should be. I have a feature request though: would it be possible to add dragging of a picture to a certain layer(or am I just too stupid to figure that out ;))
keep up the good work,
Tim

Below I have described a problem in the Zeta app_server. Depending on the graphics driver you're using, this problem can lock up the entire system. To work arround this, launch WonderBrush but avoid having the mouse pointer over the WonderBrush window. WonderBrush should start up ok. Avoid moving the mouse over the canvas view area yet. Enter the window from the top and disable pen pressure control on the radius slider (unmark the little downward arrow). WonderBrush should then run without triggering the app_server bug. On R5 systems, everything should work ok.

-Stephan

Hi,
as I am not using Zeta on a regular basis, I didn't notice this until recently. However, this is clearly a Zeta app_server or graphics driver bug in BView::DrawCircle() when drawing only sections of a circle. As you might know, a BView can not draw outside of its update region. What we are seeing here is a BView even drawing outside its window across the entire screen. An application can only do this when using BDirectWindow having direct access to the frame buffer. In the case of WonderBrush, using only normal BView drawing functions, the artifacts are clearly a problem in app_server or the graphics driver. I will see if using the newest Radeon driver fixes the problem for me and report back. I would assume that it is a app_server problem though, as there is no accelerated circle drawing function in BeOS graphics drivers. Maybe it is best to report this problem to the Zeta support team, as it is an issue of Zeta being currently pre-release quality. They need to be informed so that they can improve their product. To work arround this for the time being, I suggest turning off "pen pressure control", its the little downward arrow above the sliders. You don't need this on if you're not using a tablet. If this is off, WonderBrush doesn't draw the inner circle dots, and the bug should not be triggered.
Best regards,
Stephen

The Fill tool is already implemented in my development version, I'm currently working on the Text tool. The actual text rendering is working (using Freetype2) and it offers very nice features, the text can be positioned with sub-pixel precision, and rendering is done with 256 gray levels. When you look closely at BeOS or Photoshop text rendering, you will notice that much fewer gray levels are being used.
Best regards,

Fill and text tools are must haves, and the ability to choose the background color.as is, this app is WAY better than the little Paint app that comes bundled with M$ Windoze and IMO should be the the lite weight graphics editor included with BeOS distros,Anything more involed or complicated than this should be purchased or downloaded seperately. Are you listening yellowTab?That is something I always thought BeOS lacked out of the box,a small paintbrush app.YellowTab should definitely liscense this one for their distro.BTW I love not having all those floaters to drag out of the way!

I was so impressed with my brief experience testing Wonderbrush's demo that I went right to Kagi and sent my contribution. I am amazed. No hype. No promises. Suddenly an image app that is FAST FAST FAST. If only this were a complete image editing suite like Refraction!
Have you noticed how fast and how smoothly Wonderbrush does zooming and drawing? FANTASTIC!
I hope my contribution keeps this project going and evolving. I am excited at the possibilities. Keep up the great work! This is an example of what BeOS applications are intended to be!
I hope the fine folks at Xentronix have taken a look at Wonderbrush to see what their potential competition could be.

Hi,
I know that one way of paying at the Kagi Website is by using a credit card. I know they are not that common in Germany, but I thought the Kagi page offered some alternatives too. If you really want to use PayPal, I do have an account there. Please email me privately if you want to do that or get my bank account details.

-Stephan

All I can say is that I am totally impressed by the non floater'ed interface! This is what I've been waiting for!
If you get some more things of your todo list working, my 7,50 are yours! I just checked kagi and I saw no way to pay through PayPal. :/ What is the best method to pay at kagi from Germany, if I have no credit card handy?
Regarding the LZO license: Tell me if I am wrong, but didn't the LZO patent run out in Germany lately? It should only be valid in Japan for the next year, if I remember the article I read correctly.
Keep on with this great work!
Michael

I must say I'm extremely impressed. Other BeOS paint programs drive me insane trying to figure out how to do what I want, but with WonderBrush everything is extremely simple and intuitive. The real-time zoom and alpha effects are very cool too.

Stippi seems to be too modest:)
Noticed that section at last too, but really, there must be price and link to Kagi on bebits immediately, also, as in some apps, it is good to put link directly in about box or register menu in app:)

Huh, something with my eyes.
Once i downloaded, immediatelly looked at readme, in About and even visited www.yellowbites.com (btw, didn't find WonderBrush there) - and nowhere noticed about this price and method of payment. So may be Helmar missed that too, exactly as me. So, maybe it's too early to generalize pretensions to BeOS users embodied in Helmar's person:)

Helmar,
what do you think is the reason I'm publishing WonderBrush in its current state? I think USD 7.5 is reasonable for what it does. If I see that noone is interested in WonderBrush (and you can guess what is the best way to show me you're interested), I might decide to develop WonderBrush quitely for myself, and you may wait for v2 or v3 forever. Of course it is perfectly fine to decide not to pay. You're free to do what ever. However, if you are expecting a Photoshop class tool from an individual developer within any reasonable time... wake up! I most certainly realize that WonderBrush is nowhere near the power of that app, that's why I'm asking the laughable ammount of USD 7.5 for a keyfile, which even enables you to use WonderBrush on all your machines. Deciding to pay or not pay for a shareware product is always somewhat two-sided. On the one hand, you might miss a certain feature very much, and might not really be able to make any use of the software. On the other hand, you might risk the developer dropping the product if too few people pay him. So sometimes, you pay just for the potential you think the software has. Then it boils down to how you judge potential. If someone asks me to pay for a tool which constantly keeps crashing in every possible way, which makes the product unusable for even what it is supposed to be able to do, I might not decide to pay just like you. In your case, you have neither complained about crashing bugs, nor have you told me what exactly is missing from WonderBrush to make it usable for you. Of course, you might simply hold back your major investment of USD 7.5 to see if I stick to my product and keep developping it. In that case... :-)
Best regards,
-Stephan

I've just downloaded it, so I can't comment on its functionality, but one thing is sure: I fully side with Stippi's dislike for floaters. They are a total PITA and are by definition "in the way". If you bring this to v2 or v3 while keeping the UI as clean and uncluttered as it is now, you'll get my money.
FLOATERS SUCK!

I just tried it a little, and it seems to be pretty good application. Much more powerfull than Paint, yet still easy to use and with very nice interface :)
Would be great to have addons (for brighteness/colorize/etc things) and resizing (crop/select/resize/cut/etc..) and fill and text (but You already mentioned it in README :)
