RE: patch

Thanks, that did the trick. I'd share my working SDL build but for some reason it's over 3MB. knorr can include it in a new build of SDL if he updates the download.

The game is playable with this, although crash-prone, we'll blame that on MESA 3.2. Framerates are good, I get around 60fps in the close-in areas and usually above 30 in the open ones. When the 3D addon supports DMA access these numbers will greatly increase as well.

Hopefully the stability issues will be gone when Rudolf switches to Mesa 6.1, and it'll be a nice playable game.

You could try this patch: http://www.retrovg.com/sdl-3d-add-on.patch. I only tested it on a game I'm working on though, not on this one.

Replacing libs

It is not really neccessary to actualy replace libraries in /boot/home/config/lib - BeOS always *first* looks for *all* shared libraries in the loading application's "lib" subfolder. So, just make a "lib" folder in folder where your cube_client is and put special SDL library there (or better yet - symlink to it) - all other apps will load the other (original) version.

I grabbed the 2002 file, got all the libs seperately and put them in a lib folder. You have to start the game from a terminal - from the root game directory, bin/cube_client. That produced just a plain white window, on pressing return I got into the game proper.

Looks nice on mesa 6.1 - software renderer.
With Rudolf's 3D addon, it doesn't really work. Firstly you have to move the provided libGLU outside of the lib folder so it can find all the functions it needs. It does run, but most of the window is just screwed up noise. The very top of the window is visible and appears to update very quickly here (>30fps I would guess) - don't know if that is an indication of how well it may run once it works fully.

The problem could be trying to rescale the window after initialising it - Rudolf's driver doesn't support this yet - or maybe it is trying to run single-buffered (also unsupported, but unlikely I guess).

libsdl can that be placed in the same directory as client_cube (or server)/lib? this way we don't need to change..
